“I like the camaraderie between us as we work out together to build each other up and support one another. We all want to be better. We struggle together to do our best.”…

Member Interview:  Beth Krogh

How long have you been crossfitting?

Since January.  I joined around the time of the Open!

What is your favorite movement that we do in CrossFit?

I don’t necessarily have a favorite movement-I’m petrified of a lot of things, so it’s hard to pick!  I like the variety.

What was your biggest fear coming into CrossFit MO2DT?

I had no reservations really. I’ve learned that I like to take risks and try new things.

How did you get referred to MO2DT?

My daughters, Alison and Laura Krogh.

What CF accomplishment are you most proud of?

So never having lifted before, just learning how to do some of the movements has been an accomplishment.  Some of the movements can feel weird and awkward, but the repetition and advice from the coaches helps to get the form better.  Alison and Laura, my daughters, help by standing in front of me and I copy the movement. They can show me what I’m doing wrong too. I proud that I can do a 12-inch box jump, do back squats (finally), and I am getting better at deadlifts.

What's your 9-5 (job)?

I teach science in the alternative high school program at Southeast Polk High School.

Other than CrossFit, what else do you like to do in your free time?

A lot of things! I enjoy running, downhill skiing, and biking. I like to knit, crochet, and quilt. I volunteer as a Boy Scout leader as the Troop Chaplain. I also spend time with my kids and their activities.

What keeps you coming back each day?

I like it because I am exercising and increasing my strength. My upper body strength is less than what it should be and I want to be able to continue staying active so that I can do things like skiing, until I’m really old!  I know that CrossFit is helping me. Consistently coming is routine for me. I like the camaraderie between us as we work out together to build each other up and support one another. We all want to be better. We struggle together to do our best. I leave feeling good every day and look forward to coming back!

If you could cherrypick a WOD what would you choose?

That’s a tough question; it would be hard to pick.  I do like deadlifts and working at more weight. I can tell you what I DON’T like/what I WOULDN’T want to see:  the overhead squats....

One thing your WOD friends don't know about you?

I received my MS in Science Education this summer from Montana State University. It was always a goal for me and I accomplished it!  I have 4 kids whose ages range from 30 all the way down to 16. I grew up on a dairy farm in Northeast Iowa by Sumner. I still know how to milk cows!

Okay, what’s your favorite meal?

My favorite is meatloaf and cheesy potatoes!  Comfort food-mmm!

What or who has challenged you to be better?

All the coaches challenge me.  Sometimes they push me to go higher in weights.  Sometimes they challenge me more than I would myself.  My girls challenge me to keep going. For example, the other day, when they were done with the workout before me, which is often, they will sit near me while I am finishing and cheer me on. That is motivating. I also push myself to continue to get stronger and be faster to meet my goals of being a healthy person.

Congratulations, Beth on completing your Masters of Science this summer, and on your (almost) 1 year CrossFit Anniversary!  Say “hi” to Beth next time you see her in class-she is a 4:30 PM “regular”!
